Make Money With Websites

Making Money With Affiliates, Banners, And Text Ads

As a beginner, you "too" can make money from your website by joining affiliate programs – also known as (Referral Programs).  There are many affiliate programs that are "free" to join.  You can view that list at Affiliate Programs Directory.

Basically, the idea is for you to use your website for ads that help merchants get traffic to their site (you are like a go-between). You are usually paid either per impression, per click, or per lead when people come to your site and see an ad and take action from your site.  Pay scales vary, depending on which affiliate you join...some pay monthly or quarterly. It is more profitable if you take the time to choose an affiliate that matches your website theme.

It is a natural process that people, who are coming to your site for a specific reason, product, or service, would click on a related ad more often than an unrelated ad.

It is a known fact that people are eager to click on ads that offer them something for "free".  To increase your pay per click, try to get ads that offer "freebies" which would be of interest to your visitors.  You can also offer "freebies" to your prospective customers that will entice them to come back to your site.

Placing "Ads" On Websites

The three search engines - Yahoo!, Google and MSN - link exchanges with other websites or affiliations. Sites that get a lot of traffic can sell ads on their site to generate income.  The banner ads are conspicuously placed on your site, and you get paid a certain amount of money each time one of your site visitors click on the ad that takes them to the advertiser's website.  Of course, the more visitors you have at your site, the more clicks you will have, and the more income you will gain.  The key to getting a lot of visitors is to consistently provide updated, interesting content and information for your visitors.  A few "freebies" thrown in now and then also help.

Banner Ads

Some say banner ads are ineffective, as web surfers have been so annoyed by them that they no longer even pay any attention to them.  Others say banner ads that are viewed again and again give searches a sense of familiarity and positive images of the advertised product, service, or business.  Many claim to create a fairly significant stream of income from banner ads on their heavily trafficked websites.

Using banner ads as a stream of income:

*  According to a major study on banner ads placement by Kim Doyle, Anastasia Minor, and Carolyn Weyrich (web references), banner ads placed next to the right scroll bar on a web page generated a 228% higher click-through rate than ads placed at the top of the web page.

*  The same study showed that ads placed about one-third down the page generated 77% higher click-through rates than ads placed at the top of the page.  Visit Website Tips for more information regarding banner ads on your website.

Text Ads

All the experts say “Content is King”.  This means you have to have a lot of content on your site. You can insert hyperlinks into your text that, when clicked on, will take your visitor to another website.  Some experts believe text ads are more effective than banner ads, but there is no real data to back up that statement.

Another way to make money from your website is to sign up with Google's advertising programs. Visit "Google Programs" to learn about Google Adsense and Google Adwords.

Well, this is the end of the tutorial. I hope these topics have aided you somewhat, as you begin to create your website. I wish you all the best and, if you get a few moments in the future, please let me know how you are doing. Bye for now!
