Different Ways To Design An Easy Website For Beginners

Site Builders - Web Templates - HTML Editors

This section of my tutorial covers the different ways to design an easy website for beginners. After you have registered your domain name and have chosen your web host, you are ready to design your website.

Web designing is simply the act of creating the web pages that are on your website. Web pages are made up of both text and images. Each page within a website is a file, which has its own name (URL), and is linked together with a navigation menu composed of hyperlinks. The number of web pages per site varies from just one page up to several (minimum should be at least five pages).

Your web pages may consist of an introductory page that is called the homepage (file name: index.html), and a few other pages such as:  about you; your products or services; your company history; articles or resources; links to other sites; and a contact page.  What to put on your web pages will be discussed in my "Writing Your Web Content" section of this step-by-step tutorial.

The best rule of thumb is to create whatever and however many pages you need to adequately introduce and showcase your business or services, and offer your prospective customers what they came to find.

*** The "easiest" website design solution is to use an online website builder, which is often provided by your web hosting plan. Many web hosting plans provide "free" website templates and site-building tools for their customers.

These site builders offer user-friendly features such as click or drag and drop technology that people are accustomed to using in their word processing programs.  They do not require the user to know or use markup or scripting languages.  This allows the user to quickly and easily add buttons, counters, forms, tables, etc, to enhance their pages.   If someone needs a website yesterday, the online website builder may be their ticket for a professional looking, quick, no-hassle website.

*** If you do not want to build your website online, another way is to just build it on your computer using "free" templates and an HTML editor of your choice.  You can find a list of websites offering "free" templates in my Using Pre-Built Templates section of this tutorial.  If you use “free” website templates, be sure to read the details in their terms of use. Often, if you use a "free" template, you will be required to include a link back to their website.

Website templates can also be purchased at the "free" template websites for a low fee. Template prices range from around $15-$30 and up. Some template sites offer paid memberships to their site where you can download so many, or even unlimited, templates if you are a member.

*** Another way for beginners to design a website is to pay a small fee to a designing company, and let them handle all the details. Read my topic titled "Use A Designing Company For Your Website" for more information.

*** You can also download an HTML editor.  An HTML editor generates a computer program in HTML so you do not have to learn HTML.  An editor makes inserting images, graphics, hyperlinks to other pages, music or video clips simple to place on your website. I have provided information on some HTML editors in my next topic of this tutorial.

*** Still, another way to design your website, if you do not mind the learning curve, is to create your own web pages absolutely from “scratch”; meaning writing your own HTML (HyperText Markup Language) using codes and tags.  This subject is discussed in my "Using HTML Codes And Tags" section of this step-by-step tutorial.

Now, if you would like to design a website using an HTML editor, read my next topic in this tutorial titled "Choosing An HTML Editor".
